Facelift for 453 schools in Wayamba

The Ministry of Economic Development has launched a development plan to improve 453 schools in the difficult areas of the Kurunegala district this year. These schools would be provided with model home-gardens, activity rooms for grade one students, water and electricity and toilet facilities. These schools would be modernized by providing basic infrastructure facilities with assistance from school development societies.

With each selected school being provided with Rs. 500,000 the total provision has been estimated at Rs. 226 million. Wayamba Chief Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara told the Sunday Observer.

The objective of this program was to provide material resources to remote schools to enable the students to pursue studies in a more pleasant atmosphere. He said that he would conduct programs for both principals and junior assistant school teachers in Kurunegala and Puttalam districts to inculcate positive attitudes in them to ensure quality education to benefit student community.
