Gayamu Perani Gee Sing-a-long 2013

Lankika Perera leading the Golden Chimes will present Gayamu Perani Gee Sing-a-long 2013 on October 19 at. 6.30 p.m. at the Holy Emmanuel Church Parish Hall presented by the Bank of Ceylon Pensioners Association, Moratuwa.

The proceeds will be in aid of Welfare projects including the Blind School, Ratmalana. A free song containing 50 Sinhala songs of yesteryear will be given to each member of the audience. The General Manager of the Bank of Ceylon D.M. Gunasekera will be chief guest.


Nithya Kalai Kaveri turns 10

The Nithya Kalai Kaveri Centre for Fine Arts, which trains students in Bharatha Natyam, celebrated its tenth anniversary this year, by staging Nrithya Samarpanam, their maiden performance at the Tower Hall recently. Here a dance performance by the pupils of the centre's Directress, Renuka Devi Poorajah.


Bharatha Natyam Arangetram on Oct 18

The Bharatha Natyam arangetram of Abhirami Rajendran will be held on October 18 at the New Kathiresan Hall, Bambalapitiya. She is a disciple of Kalasuri Smt. Vasugi Jegatheeswaran of Natya Kala Mandhir. A Bharatha Natya exponent in Chennai, Smt.Meenakshi Chitharanjan will be the chief guest.


Three Pauls Concert today

Vincent Paul Fernando, Christopher Paul and Paul Fernando are collaborating to celebrate 30 years in music, by holding a concert today at the Moratuwa Baudha Mandira Hall at 6.00 p.m.

The music will be provided by Nalaka with Sun Shadows and the concert compered by Lakmal Salgado and Suraj Panagoda.


Prof. A.M.M. Mackeen dies in Malaysia

Professor A.M.M. Mackeen, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies of the University of Malaysia expired yesterday in Kuala Lumpur.

Born in Kuruwe Street, Hulftsdorp, he was an old boy of Hameedia School and Zahira College, Colombo. He was hailed as a brilliant product of Zahira during the Jayah era. The Malaysian government sought his views on Islamic Constitutional matter during the early part of the drafting its constitution states A.H.M. Azwer, MP in a condolence release. Dr. Mackeen leaves behind his wife Firial nee. Suby and two sons Mukram and Akram. His janaza took place in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
