Policemen on bribery charges

A Sub Inspector and three Police Constables attached to the Anti Vice Detection Unit of the Kalutara South police station were taken into custody for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs.50,000 from an illicit liquor dealer.

They were arrested by a special police team sent by the Kalutara Division Senior Superintendent of Police on information received.

Acting Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana told the Sunday Observer that the suspected officers had arrested an illicit liquor dealer in the area a few days ago. They had allegedly demanded money to take mild action against him in Court.

The four officers were produced before the Kalutara Magistrate's Courts and remanded.
