Attack on Weliveriya temple: Three arrested

The Malwathuhiripitiya police Friday night arrested three persons of the area on suspicion over the late night attack on the Sabha Vihara in Weliveriya in which properties belonging to the temple and vehicles were damaged, according to the Police Headquarters.

The attackers had allegedly pelted stones at the temple, damaging three vehicles parked in the vicinity, shattering flower pots and causing other damagew. The reason for the attack was not known, the sources said.

Our Roving Correspondent in Gampaha, Nimal Jayasinghe said according to information gathered by him, the attack was not politically motivated. According to the Malwathuhiripiitiya police, the suspects will be produced before the Gampaha Magistrate tomorrow followed by an identification parade, he said.
