Sebastianite Nipun Perera shines at Chess

Nipun Perera of St. Sebastian's College, Moratuwa won silver medal in
Blitz and Bronze in Classical standard at the 9th Asian School Chess
Championship held at Hotel Citrus in Hikkaduwa recently. There were 384
players from 14 countries: Australia, India, Malaysia, Uzbekistan,
Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Yemen, Maldives, United Arab
Emirates, South Korea and Sri Lanka that participated in the tournament.
Indian player Akash Iyer was the Gold Medallist in both categories.
The tournament was conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka
under Classical Standard, Rapid and Blitz categories.
Sebastianite Nipun Perera, aged 17, has been a up-and-coming chess
player from his very young days and brought honour to his school,
playing under all age categories from 7-17 in inter-school and
inter-provincial chess championships conducted by the Chess Federation
of Sri Lanka during the last number of years. |
