A former Dharmaraja College football captain G.S. Piyatissa who also
represented Kandy District and Sri Lanka, along with Peter Ranasinghe,
P.D. Sirisena, Mahinda Aluwihare, Edward Wickremasuriya, P.H.S. Albert
and others, is on a holiday here from Sweden.
During his vacation here, Piyatissa did not waste his time, but used
his goodwill first of all to conduct a two-day for young players at
Lewella Football Club on October 5 and 6 at the Lewella M.C. Grounds,
Kandy.
Piyatissa is a qualified football coach in Germany and Brazil. He has
been in Sweden for over 40 years and he did not want to idle his time,
but wanted to train some youngsters in the game. He also organised a
tournament in Kandy with the hope of raising the standard of the game in
Kandy.
Piyatissa organised the under 13 and under 15 football tournaments
with the help of some old Rajan players and the secretary of Kandy
Football League Kapila Dissanayake.
In the under 13 tournament D.S. Senanayake Vidyalaya emerged
champions, in the preliminary round matches played on a league basis,
while in the under 15 tournament Be reverts, Ampitiya emerged champs. |
