Doors opened for 3,500 teacher trainees

The Ministry of Education has called for applications from those who passed the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination 2012 to follow academic courses at National Colleges of Education islandwide said the Director General of the National Institute of Education (NIE) Prof. Abeyratne Bandara that applicants can forward their application forms till February 21, to follow these teacher training educational courses and around 3500 teacher-trainees will selected for these teacher training courses.

The Gazette notification in this regard was issued on the January 31. Rs. 5,900 million is invested annually to train these teacher-trainees and they will be fully equipped with methodology of teaching and educational psychology at these residential teacher training programs.

About 5,000 experienced teachers go on retirement annually and hence the process of training teachers has to be regularised to meet the requirements of skilled human resources in the educational field," said a Zonal Director of Education in Kurunegala. A. Dassanayake
