TNA taken to task for pro-LTTE stance
by P. Krishnaswamy
The TNA came under fire from Digamadulla UPFA MP Perumpulli Hewage
Piyasena, one-time TNA parliamentarian and Pradeshiya Sabha chairman,
for its pro-LTTE and anti-government stance detrimental to the interests
of Tamils.
Instead of strengthening the hard-won peace for the Tamils, the TNA
is on a deliberate course to destabilise it, Piyasena said.
Its open support to UNHRC investigations against the Government on
human rights' issues and Tamil Nadu pro-LTTE campaigns are deplorable
and intended to mislead the Tamils, he said.
The Government has made huge allocations for the North-East
development in the forthcoming Budget too but the TNA, instead of
cooperating with the Government, is taking recourse to statements and
acts that are counter-productive, he said adding that he and all other
peace-loving people are confident that President Rajapaksa will offer a
lasting and workable solution on power devolution to the Northern
province.
Many prominent leaders from the Eastern province, including SLMC
founder leader M.H.M. Ashraff, the renowned Tamil leader and one-time
Cabinet Minister Chelliah Rajadurai who had been with the present TNA
leaders from its inception had left them because they detested their
unpatriotic and anti-government approach since independence, Piyasena
said.
