Program to revive bee-honey industry

The Provincial Department of Agriculture NWP, has drawn up a plan to preserve the bee-colonies that are faced with the threat of extinction. The department has planned to select ten provincial secretariat areas from Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts as a first step under this program.

There is a great demand for pure bee-honey. The department hopes to produce 50 per cent of bees honey that is needed in the province under the program. This plan will be implemented till the year 2016, said a senior spokesman for the department.
