CID seeks to question
on double passport issue:
Sashi Weerawansa missing?
by Kurulu Kariyakarawana
CID
sleuths are on the lookout for the missing wife of MP Wimal Weerawansa,
Shashi Weerawansa to record a statement regarding her double passport
issue, police said.
Police spokesman, SSP Ajith Rohana told the Sunday Observer yesterday
that a team of CID officials went to Shashi Weerawansa's house in
Kaduwela and found that she was not at home. They had then reportedly
visited several other places believed to be frequented by her but their
efforts proved futile. Officials initiated an inquiry acting on a
complaint received a few weeks ago that Shashi Weerawansa had applied
for a Diplomatic Passport sometime ago under a different name and had
submitted forged documents which were found to be different to the
details already with the authorities when she applied for a regular
passport.
Although the revelation of her alleged forged passport scam was
exposed three weeks ago, the CID had failed to summon her to record a
statement for reasons best known to them.
Responding to numerous questions raised by the media at several
routine press briefings, the regular response of Police Spokesman Ajith
Rohana was that officers were yet to grill her.
MP Weerawansa told the recent pro Mahinda Nugegoda rally that no
officials had come to get his wife's versionand that they were waiting
for the police to show up at any moment.
Attempts made to contact MP Weerawansa for comments on his wife in
this regard were futile. |
