West Indies batsman Bravo tears hamstring muscle and also
hit with ICC reprimand for “audible obscenity” |
West Indies batsman Darren Bravo has torn a hamstring muscle in his
left leg and will miss the next two Cricket World Cup matches.
However, the lower-grade tear will not result in him being sent home
as there is a chance he will recover, team management says.
Bravo's bad day got worse when he was hit with an official reprimand
from ICC match referee David Boon for an "audible obscenity whilst
batting".
Bravo retired hurt on 49 after going for a quick single in his side's
150-run win over Pakistan on Saturday in Christchurch. He was taken from
the field on a medicab and went to hospital for a scan. He had earlier
been stretching the troublesome left hamstring before the injury.
He also suffered a blow to the head on 30 when a shy at the stumps -
also during a quick single - struck him hard on the side of the helmet.
The West Indies play Zimbabwe in Canberra on Tuesday and then South
Africa in Sydney before an eight-day break. It was hoped the hamstring
would recover in time for the final two pool matches, team spokesman
Philip Spooner said. (CA) |
