NCPC’s Rs.13 b water filter under probe
by Dhaneshi Yatawara
Fresh investigations have resumed over the purchase of water filters
worth nearly Rs.13 billion for the use of people affected with Chronic
Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology of the North Central Province (NCP).
Based on a public complaint, the Presidential Commission of Inquiry
to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and
Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC) began
investigations on the alleged corruption that had taken place in the
North Central Provincial Council.
According to the Commission’s Secretary Lacille de Silva, the
relevant officials will be summoned to the Commission tomorrow, January4
to give their statements.
Among them are officials of the Provincial Council, three Ministers
from the NCP and several other officials associated with the purchase as
well as the General Manager of a private company that supplied the water
filters.
Evidence collected so far by the special Police investigation team of
the PRECIFAC have revealed that specifications seem to have been altered
to procure water filters of a substandard nature. The private supplier,
a renowned private company dealing with household items, had furnished
wrong information about their experience and after sales service. |
