V3 no longer in the wings

by Mahes Perera

Her look is casual but deliberate. Blue jeans fall around her slim hips and her cutaway top conveys a stylist's skill to create the thrown together impression. Her long fingers are adorned with silver rings and round her neck the usual striking chains that singers of today indulge in. Her smile and demeanour is pleasant.

L. R. Dilani, Krishanthi and Thiseru

She is a new generation singer- Thiseru Perera leading her group V3 and hailing from Kandy. The other two members of her group are Dilani Weerakkody and Krishanthi de Soysa, who provide the active dancing and harmony behind her. Tomorrow, Monday, May 9 V3 will be featured at a show in Gampaha sponsored by DFCC.

"I want to be different on stage. There was this need in me to accomplish it and I was looking for girls to be back up dancers. A friend of mine introduced them to me. Both of them have O Level qualifications in music and dancing which made it easy. We performed at the Reach Out 3 and 4 concerts at Kandy and Kurunegala organised by Diliup Gabadamudalige and we were very happy with the response when we song Yapath Avidini and Ranwan Ranmal" says a fast talking, bubbly Thiseru.

V 3 came into existence in Kandy last year and were waiting in the wings to make their impact. Thiseru who writes her own songs, has recorded an album with M Entertainment supervised by Sachin and Rakitha. They are Sinhala songs in the catchy bangra and reggae rhythms. Come July and V3 intend releasing another CD. 'This time I'm getting assistance from Diliup to create the music tracks,' informs Thiseru who was featured at two concerts in Badulla and Colombo in April.

A singer to be reckoned with in the future, Thiseru abhors the idea of a singer standing like a statue and singing on stage. The 'Shy Shadows' as she calls her dancing girls watch many modern music videos and gather ideas for their acts.

Thiseru herself moves into the dance act as well, and it is a refreshing sight to see three girls moving to rhythmic precision when putting over their song. With a debut video Piyapath Avidu recorded and telecast by Sirasa, V3 intend making a second video with animation so that it is different from the first one.

"I'm happy working with Dilani and Krishanthi. If we have troubles we share our problems. My mother has been a constant support to me and I can't pass on without acknowledging the help of B. A. C. Pathmendra of Kandy, Diliup Gabadamudalige, Bathiya Jayakody, Ashanthi, Sachin and also Chanaka who specifically handles our costumes. Breaking into today's music scene is tough but we have succeeded and I'm happy about it" concludes the confident Thiseru Perera leader of V3.
