Telling Tales Dream Guy by Jenn It was your average, boring day at school. My best friend Cassie and I were walking to our next class together, English. We were laughing together over our latest joke of a novel that we had to read. And all of a sudden, there he was. The epitome of perfection, walking straight towards me. I stared dreamily at him. He neared us. I just knew he was looking straight at me.
But if he wasn't that great, why were my legs turning to jello now that he was headed my way? Don't look at him, I warned myself. Other fish in the ocean...other guys... The words swirled around my head. I was getting dizzy just trying not to look at Taylor. That's it! I thought, relenting. Look at him. Augh! What an awful mistake! Now I couldn't take my eyes off of him! I imagined him coming up to me... "Hey Cassie. Hey Marie," he'd say, giving me one of his perfect smiles with his perfect teeth. "What's up?" "Not much," I'd say coolly. "You?" "Same. Hey, listen, Cassie, can I talk to you for a second?" He'd say... HEY!!! WAIT A MINUTE!!!! This is MY daydream! So why is he asking to talk to Cassie??? HE'S SUPPOSED TO WANNA TALK TO ME!!!!! Oops. Just one problem. If this was a daydream, why would Cassie and Taylor be walking away from me? I leaned up against the wall. I resisted the temptation to bang my head against it. So this was where all of our six years of best-friendship had taken us. She steals my guy. I could imagine the conversation.. "So, Cassie," Taylor would say, smiling his ugly smile at her, with his yellow teeth. (This is added for effect. I hate that jerk now. All of his flirting with me, all of his sweetness towards me, down the drain. Well, he never actually did those things, but...) "I was thinking. Maybe you and me could go hang at the mall sometime?" And Cassie, with her sinfully sparkling eyes, thinking, This is my chance to get back at Marie. Perfect Marie, who always got everything she wanted. Well, not anymore. So what if I don't like Taylor... HAHAHAHA! (This is also added for effect. She's such an evil backstabber. I bet she really DID like him!) And she would say, "Of course, Taylor. I think that you are the cutest guy at school." And he would say, "And you are totally the cutest girl, Cassie. Much better than you're dorky friend Marie." And they would live happily ever after, and probably be named "Cutest Couple" and "Prom King and Queen" and get married and all that... "Marie? Mar-ie? Hello, anybody home?" It was Cassie. "You have some nerve!!!" I started. I couldn't help it. "You stabbed me right in the back! You said you didn't like him! You said you..." "Hold on!" Cassie said, quietly, but forcefully. "What are you talking about?" One glance at me gave her her answer. "Did you think that Taylor asked me out? Ew! I don't even like him! He was asking if I could hook you up with him." I gazed at her speechlessly. And then I threw my self at her, hugging her tightly. "YOU ROCK!! YourockyourockyouROCK!!! You're the BEST!" I yelled. "Umm, Marie? Can you stop now? You're embarassing me..." Cassie said. Suddenly the bell rang. We looked at each other, made horrified faces, and ran all the way to English, but what did I care? TAYLOR AUSTIN ASKED ME OUT!! "Marie? Marie? Wake up!" I heard Cassies voice. "Huh?" I asked. "You've been spacing out on me. We have to get to English. You barely even noticed when Taylor said hi...do you still like him?" I looked behind me. There was Taylor. The whole thing had been a dream...
