Dahasak Maha Wew enters stage II by Deepal Warnakulasuriya Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation Ministry has made all the arrangements to commence the second phase of 1000 Tanks (Dahasak maha wew) Project this morning (May 8) on the bank of Kahatagasdigiliya Lulnewa Tank in Anuradhapura with the participation of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga as the chief guest. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Cabinet of Ministers, Ambassadors and many others are due to grace the function. The second phase of that project has been drawn to reconstruct another 1500 tanks islandwide and project has been estimated to Rs. 70 million. A spokesman from the Ministry said that the second phase would be completed by the end of this year and their target was to rehabilitate and reconstruct 10,000 tanks striving the country for a agriculture based economy. Thousand tanks project was commenced by the United People's Freedom Alliance government with the intention of reviving an irrigation based civilisation to rebuild a prosperous nation last year. The first phase of the project had worked on 932 tanks islandwide including the North and East. |
