LG Minister opens public complaints window by Anura Maitipe The ministry of Provincial Council and Local Government has set up a special unit to probe into complaint made by the public against officials who served in provincial councils and local government institutions, Provincial and Local Government Minister Janaka Bandara Thennakoon told the Sunday Observer. Large numbers of complaints have been received by the ministry from the public over abusing of clients and delaying of files. And this has resulted in loss of faith in State services. Now people are reluctant to go to public offices since they know that they cannot get their work done on time. If the State sector is to be efficient the attitude of State workers has got be changed the Minister said. The State employees always should keep in mind that they draw their salaries out of public money collected from various taxes and they are duty bound to serve the public. He urged the public to send their complaints to the investigation unit
that had been set up in the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local
Government. In the event of such complaints the unit would take speedy
action against errant officials" he added. |
