UNP voice concern over security by Ananda Kannangara UNP media spokesman Prof. G.L. Peiris on Thursday was highly concerned over the increase in number of killings and other major crimes, a daily occurrence nowadays and said that the law and order had dipped to zero level. "Although President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga was keen on re-introducing death penalty soon after Justice Sarath Ambepitiya was killed but upto now she is yet to fulfil this pledge," he said. He said that delaying such pledges shows that the President has comfortably forgotten all those promises." Prof. Peiris also mentioned the brutal killing of journalist Dharmeratnam Sivaram in the high security zone at Sri Jayawardanapura recently and said that Government must maintain law and order to prevent such incidents in the future. |
