Young Yasith impresses in Indian chess tourney International Master B.S. Sivanandan who has the WLO Rating 2450, won the IBP Nashik Mahanagar National Open Fide Rating Chess Tournament at Hotel Royal Heritage, Nashik, India collecting 9 points out of a possible 10. Sri Lanka had a team that represented the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre and of the players Yasith Hirimburegama did well to collect 6 points out of 10 and thereby he beat three Indian rated players - Ghatpaude Sheha (ELO rating 1904) scored 6 points, Chahal Amam (ELO rating 1870) also got 6 points and Swaminathan (ELO rating 2206) got 6.5 points. Young Yasith also drew with four rated players and is in line for a good rating in Fide rating list which will be out in July in the internet. The other Sri Lankan players who went to India: Suneetha Wijesuriya (5 points), Nishantha Withanage and Onesh de Silva 3 1/2 points, Anjula Samarasinghe 4 1/2 points, Kanishka Seneviratne 3 1/2 points, Bandula Withanage 3 1/2 points, Prabudda Wijesinghe 3 1/2 points. There were 320 chess players who participated in this tournament and a fairly high standard was witnessed with over 50 percent of the players being International Rated players. |
