Thailand Heritage Tour : Five Lankan cyclists vie for honours Five cyclists from Sri Lanka (three from Army and one each from Navy and Air Force) are competing at the Thailand Heritage Tour, an international cycling event, covering 714 km, which started yesterday (Saturday) and scheduled to end on Wednesday. This is being conducted by the Thai Cycling Association. The five riders nominated by the Interim Committee for Cycling are - M. Kapila (Army), Sampath Krishantha (Navy), Wasantha Harischandra (Army), Sujith Silva (Air Force) and Thilanga Silva (Army) with Sanjeewa Muttiah as manager and Sisila Kumara as assistant manager-cum-coach. Yesterday, the race got under way from Bangkok to Lop Buri, a distance of 154.50 km, while today it is from Lop Buri to Nakhon Sawan, a distance of 154 km. Tomorrow, it's from Nakhom Sawan to Sukhothai, a distance of 218.50 km, and Wednesday from Augthong to Ayuthaya, a distance of 163 km. There is also a time trial on Tuesday covering a distance of 24 km. Prize money totalling 200,000/- Bahts is on offer, with the overall winner entitled to Baht 100,000/- and the HRH Princess Sirindhorn trophy. The first and second runners-up will receive Baht 50,000/- and Baht 30,000/- respectively. L.G. |
