Bass relief on wood by Ranga Chandrarathne For the first time in Sri Lanka, a three dimensional expression of bass relief on wood was held from August 25 to 29 at Alliance Francaise Colombo by renowned artist, Ratnasena Kodikara.
Ratnasena took to teaching, and inspired a generation of students in both rural and city schools. He was a brilliant product of the Heywood College of Fine Arts. He earned many laurels at International Exhibitions and was awarded Gold and Silver medals in recognition of his outstanding artistic creations.He held numerous solo exhibitions both here and abroad. Savo Polo-Brazil, Paris Bianale-France, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria are some locations where he held solo exhibitions. He had also the rare distinction of being invited as an expert teacher of arts at Senior Art Institute (Department of Education - GGUN STATE, Nigeria) where he taught for three-and-half years. This exhibition was unique in the sense that he had experimented how the traditional style of temple paintings could be transformed into three-dimensional motifs on the novel medium of wood. He is the chief project officer of Arts at the National Institute of Education. |
