Children to the rescue Daisy Clack and Sophie Clack were two kids attending the Britrix Potters Primary school in London. When both of them were watching the T.V., they were shocked by the spectacle of a group of children caught up in a strong tidal wave, school buildings perished and parents with their siblings huddled in their refuge camps in the tsunami-hit Sri Lanka. Overwhelmed with sympathy the two kids sold their books to school book club and collected 70 Sterling Pounds. Later, they handed over their money to class teachers, Florida Jayaratne who herself happened to be a Sri Lankan, the only one in the school. The Principal, Step Neale and her staff too contributed to the noble cause expressed by the two kids! Teacher, Florida with her husband Berty returned to Sri Lanka recently and with the money gifted by her school, bought exercise books, pens, pencils, toothpastes, shampoos, medicines, etc. for 322 children in Batheegama MV, Dikwella. Books for the school library, uniforms, etc. were also provided Florida said a close link was established between London's Britrix Potter Primary School and Batheegama MV. She assured further assistance would be provided to Batheegama MV. in future. |
