People complain :

Midnight patrolling, a problem

This was noted in the gathering of the Societies held yesterday at Trincomalee Vigneswara Maha Vidyalayam of which the TNA MP was the chief guest.

Representative of the Anbuvazhi Puram Village Development Society said at the meeting that people were compelled to live in fear because of the patrolling of forces at midnight. (Thinakural(TK) - 29/08/05)

Tsunami-affected people living in the 200m coastal buffer zone in Sammanthurai have been issued electricity bills for power they consumed. People have expressed dissatisfaction over the issue.

After being affected by the calamity people have been in limbo as to where they are going to have their permanent residences. 'We being demanded to pay the electricity bill is an inhuman act', they lamented. (TK - 01/09/05).

People staying in temporary shelters in the East are in great difficulty due to the prevalence of severe heat in the area.

Temperature has increased in Batticaloa and Ampara Districts from September. As many temporary camps constructed for the homeless were made of tin, people find it hard to bear the heat inside during day time. (TK - 01/09/05).

The Tamil Renaissance Convention was grandly held in Kilinochchi yesterday. People began to swell from morning. Resolutions declared at the previous convention in Vavuniya was re-emphasised.

The event was shaped so as to demonstrate the aspirations to the international community. Kilinochchi wore a ceremonious look. (TK - 02/09/05).

Bogawana estate Assistant Manager has written a letter to union representatives saying that stern action would be taken against the workers under the 'State of Emergency'.

"Members of your union are behaving indecently in the influence of liquor at the working sites and the office. If such misconduct would continue severe actions would be taken under the present 'State of Emergency', the letter said.

The renowned annual 'Ther' Festival of Nallur Kantha Swami Kovil began yesterday morning around 7.30. Devotees converged in thousands chanting 'Arohara' aloud. (Virakesari(VK) - 03/09/05)
