United National Party plans for 15 years by Ananda Kannangara The 15-year National Policy and also the Election Manifesto, prepared by the United National Party (UNP) in view of the forthcoming Presidential Election will be released soon after handing over nominations. UNP, Deputy General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka told the Sunday Observer that the prepared national policy has focused much attention on fifteen important fields which largely benefit the masses. "Some of them are health, highway construction, education, transport, women and youth activities, economy, imports and exports and agriculture," he said . The National Policy has also focused attention on youth unemployment that is increasing day by day. We have focused special attention on the solving of this most important problem by initiating large scale new employment projects such as the introduction of open economy, the free trade zones and the garment sectors. "As we are aware a large number of direct and indirect jobs were provided to youth by these sectors," he said. Special attention has also been paid to the country's national security in the UNP National Policy and election manifesto. We are of the view that a political solution is needed to solve the matter. |
