PM and Rights of Muslims SLMC wants the Presidential Candidates to assure that the rights of the Muslims will be looked after by them.I do not wish to comment about Ranil Wickremasinghe's stand but I am in a position to comment about Mahinda Rajapaksa's pro-Muslim and anti-zionist role pursued by him during the last 30 years. PM who functioned as the President of Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine from 1975 and he is still the Founder President with Athauda Seneviratne and Imtiaz Bakir Markar as Co-Presidents. When PM was declared the Presidential candidate it was joyous news for the Islamic and Arab world and it took only a few hours for the Ambassadors of these countries to go up to Temple Trees as one solid group and congratulate him. In this context it is unfair and highly immoral or even hypocritical for SLMC to ask for an assurance from PM. He is a proven fighter for the Arab cause in the eyes of the world leaders. The banners and posters that came up in the East and Puttalam greeting PM bear testimony to the fact that Muslims in Sri Lanka do not need any further assurances from PM. SLMC appears to be ignoring the realities and groping in the dark. SLMC should study the history of this country and see how Sinhala Buddhist Kings looked after the Muslims when Portuguese, Dutch, British and their lackeys attacked them. It is happening even today. Mahinda Rajapaksa has overtaken all Sinhala, Muslim and Tamil leaders in this country when it comes to question of fighting for the rights of the Muslims. Let SLMC verify this from any Islamic or Arab diplomatic mission in this country. By Dr. T. Jayasinghe. |
