Gang war takes one more life by Jayampathy Jayasinghe Reprisal killings are taking place following the killing of a notorious underworld leader, Mohammed Rilam Mohammed inside a Prison Department vehicle last Thursday at Hulftsdorp, police said. The latest victim to be shot dead on Friday evening around 6.00 p.m. at Prince Gate at Colombo 12. has been identified as one Nuwan Amendra Dias, an underworld figure working for Prince Collect's gang. Four bullet casings of a .380 revolver have been found at the scene. "We suspect this was a reprisal killing. But the suspect has not yet been identified and the weapon too has not been found", OIC Crimes, Keselwatte Police, Inspector W. A. D. Dayananda said. Meanwhile, the Keselwatte police have questioned around 10 persons including prison officials over the killing of Mohammed Rilam Mohammed. Four other underworld suspects who were inside the Black Maria vehicle at the time of shooting have been injured. OIC Crimes Keselwatte Police, Inspector Dayananda said they are yet to identify the person who had handed over a parcel of rice to Danushka while he was inside the Black Maria. The suspect Danushka is a resident of Bloemendhal Road Kotahena. OIC Keselwatte, Inspector W.M. Chandratillaka is directing the investigations. |
