Ladies fancied to make it three-in-a-row

Top rowing fare could be witnessed with Ladies College and Musaeus College rowers vying for major honours at the third annual dual regatta to be held on Saturday, September 10 on the Beira Waters at Colombo Rowing Club commencing at 2.00 p.m.

September 10 regatta between the two leading women's rowing teams should be a close affair as the oarswomen from both schools have performed exceptionally well in the warm-up regattas and recently concluded 22nd Rowing Nationals.

However, Ladies College, the holders, having won the first two duals fielding 12 colourswomen is strongly favoured to retain the overall trophy. Ladies College performed well at the Rowing Nationals, winning the Women's Senior and Intermediate titles. But, Musaeus College, also with 10 colourswomen is bound to offer stiff opposition to their opponents.

Ladies College won the challenge trophy for being champions at last year's dual regatta. The oarswomen of Ladies College won four events including the main boat race - 'A' Fours in 2004. Last year, in the main event, 'A' Fours, it was a good contest with both crews rowing effectively. Ladies College crew comprising: Shadeena Mendis, Sashini Amarasuriya, Sarani Dissanayake, Gayani Boteju, Minuri Amarasuriya rowed with courage to win the event by a whisker 5.58 secs. to their opponents time of 5.59 secs.

Sashini Amarasuriya, will captain Ladies College rowing crew. The other oarswomen are Tanaya Lenaduwa, Naditaa de Silva, Anjali Mandawala, Chrutti Peiris, Areisha Wickremanayake, Sarani Jayawardena, Amaya Jayasriya, Shayar de Silva, Anya Ratnayake, Gayesha Wijemanne, Shadeena Mendis, Savani Dissanayake, Gayani Boteju, Shiyana Welikala, Tahani Perera, Khyati Wickremanayake, Tareena Navaratne, Shirell Hallock, Yanithra Hallock, Ama Wickremanayake, Minuri Amarasuriya, Amenthi Weerasinghe, Tarea Navaratne, Roshani Perera, Gabrielle Mohamed, Denise Koch.

Musaeus College team will be led by Naduni Perera, the members are Uvini Atapattu, Hiroshini Goonewardena, Sachithra Jayatilake, Niroshi Goonewardena, Miyuru Jayathilake, Nethini Lokubalasuriya, Sarasi Paranamanna, Hiruni Gunawardena, Minuri Jayasundera, Sanjeewani Kularatne, Nilakshika Deheragoda, Gimani Widanagamage, Ushika Iddamalgoda, S. Perera, N. Ramanayake, R. Silva, N. Soyza, N. Ranasinghe, L. Munasinghe, T. Weerasinghe, C. Samarasinghe.

The events: 'A' Scull, 'B' Scull, 'A' Pairs, 'B' Pairs, 'A' Fours, 'B' Fours.
