JHU to meet Indian PM
by Jayantha Sri Nissanka
The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) plans to lead a delegation to India
shortly to meet Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and other
leaders to present a clear picture of the plight of the Tamil community
in Sri Lanka.
JHU leader Ven. Ellawala Medhananda Thera told the Sunday Observer
yesterday said, that five MPs of the Tamil National Alliance, the
mouthpiece of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabahakaran had attempted to meet
the Indian Premier but Dr.Singh had declined to meet them.
He said 99 percent of the Tamils in Sri Lanka were willing to live
under a democratically elected Government but they cannot openly express
it in fear of the LTTE guns.
He said that the Army repulsed many LTTE attacks and conducted
limited defensive operations to provide the basic needs to people in
those areas. |
