Road Race at University of Colombo today
A Road Race and a workshop to develop leadership skills are annual
events organised by the Amalgamated Club of the University of Colombo.
Road Race '06' is an annual event organised by the Team of Athletics
in collaboration with the Amalgamated Sports Club of the University of
Colombo. It will be held today (Sunday 10th September) from 8.30 a.m.
onwards and it consists of a Road Race and a Sports Carnival.
The Road Race will be worked through a 10 Km route starting at the
University grounds and will circle the adjoining roads and end on the
University grounds where the carnival will take place.
The objectives of the Road Race are four-fold: 1. To select the best
long distance runners to represent the University in the
Inter-University Games as well as the World Universities Games. 2. To
generate funds for training material and equipment necessary for the
development and uplift of the standard of the Athletics Team of the
University. 3. To promote distance running and other sports samongest
undergraduates. 4. To build endurance, commitment and sportsmanship
among sportspersons.
There will also be a leadership Workshop on the 10th September and
among the activities are: Motivational speeches by eminent
sportspersons, games specifically designed to enhance leadership skills,
and educative sessions on how to handle common injuries encountered
whilst engaged in sports.
Such sessions in the past have been conducted by outstanding
sportspersons including Sri Lanka Cricketer Jehan Mubarak, and this year
too, it is the intention to uphold this tradition of giving nothing but
the best for our sportsmen and women!
At the end of the workshop, there will be a campfire at the end of it
all and there will song and dance to lift the spirits of all present. |
