Dharmaraja felicitate top sportsmen

Dharmaraja College felicitated cricketer Chamara Kapugedera and three
other sportsmen who did the country proud by winning medals at the
recent South Asian Games were felicitated by the Dharmaraja College
authorities and parents of the schoolboys at a ceremony at the school
premises recently.
Besides cricketer Chamara Kapugedera deeds as a Test cricketer, three
other athletes who won medals at the SA Games - P. K. N. Dayan (Silver
medal in weightlifting in 75 kg events), Gihan Madhushanka Liyanage
(Silver medal in TT team championship and Bronze medal in individual
game) and Rajitha Sandeepa Dahanayake (Silver medal in badminton).
The principal of Dharmaraja S. M. Keerthiratne seemed to be overjoyed
at the ceremony and said that the four young sportsmen, two of them
still schoolboys have brought honour to the school and the country and
all Rajans should be very proud of them.
Chamara Kapugedera who played cricket for the school until the end of
the 2005 season, is one of the best that the school had produced in
recent times and has now established his place in the Sri Lanka Test and
limited overs team. One record that will to the credit of Chamara
Kapugedera is the fact that he is the first Rajan to play Test cricket
and this achievement will take a long time to equal.
The athletes who won medals at the SA Games too should be commended
for the hard work they put in so that Sri Lanka could collect some
medals. N. P. K. Dayan - the Silver medallist in the 77 kgs event, have
broken established many records and represented Sri Lanka at the
Commonwealth Games.
Gihan Liyanage - the TT player and Rajitha Sandeepa Dahanayake have
also put the name of Dharmaraja College high up the list in the
achievements. |
