A President's passionate plea
Almost on the eve of marking his first year in
office, President Mahinda Rajapaksa presented the second budget of
his Government in Parliament on Thursday in his capacity as Finance
Minister. Making an impassionate plea, President Rajapaksa appealed
to all concerned to sacrifice today for a brighter tomorrow.

Rapporteur for the Children and Armed Conflict, Ambassador Allan
Rock who concluded a fact finding mission on child conscription made
some daunting remarks this week. At a press briefing held at the UN
office in Colombo, the UN representative said he had evidence to the
effect that the security forces were helping the Karuna faction to
recruit child soldiers.
