The majestic stone wall, constructed under the auspices of Sri Maha
Bodhi Fund surrounding Sri Maha Bodhi, to provide a long lasting
protection to it, will be declared open tomorrow.
Commissioning of the electrification system of the Perahera Mawatha
constructed around the Sri Maha Bodhi under the 'Maga Neguma' scheme
during the time when the President was the Prime Minister, will also
take place the same day. This electrification project is a donation of "Lakdanavi"
institute.
Another event scheduled to take place the same day is the launching
of the book "Jayasiri Maha Bo Siritha" written by A. H. J. Wijedasa,
Chairman of Ranweta Fund and former Secretary to the President.A Rest
for the Maha Sangha visiting Anuradhapura from other parts of the island
had been a long felt need and now it has been fulfilled by a group of
Russian devotees.
A fully equipped Rest was constructed by them and offered to the Maha
Sangha recently. Through their generosity, a 'Dana Salawa' where 500
Bikkhus can partake alms at a time, is also being constructed and
expected to be opened shortly.
While many such construction works are under way, the ancient stone
wall found surrounding the Sri Maha Bodhi still remains in a dilapidated
condition. It is high time the authorities paid due attention to this
and take steps for its restoration.
