MoU between eight Chartered institutions - a landmark
by L. S. A. Wedaarachchi
The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between eight
Chartered institutions is a landmark occasion as it is the first time
that Chartered institutions are gathering under one umbrella.
The formal inauguration of the Forum of Chartered Institutes in Sri
Lanka (FCI) was held at the Galle Face Hotel on Monday.
FCI President Fayaz Saleem said that the primary objective of the FCI
was to create an opportunity to meet regularly and exchange ideas to
further the institutional objectives of each discipline.
"The aim of the Forum is to promote networking and camaraderie among
members in the various disciplines within the commercial and public
sector that would in turn contribute to the mutual benefit of the
members as well as reap economic benefits to the country," he said.
The High Commissioner in Sri Lanka for Great Britain and Northern
Island Dominick Chilcott, the chief guest said that a coalition such as
the one in Sri Lanka which includes almost every political party against
the backdrop of the decades-old conflict must be fantastically
difficult.
Chilcott urged wise counsel and good sense of civil society for the
transformation of the current stalemate between the LTTE and the Sri
Lankan government.
The eight organisations who signed the MoU are Association of
Chartered Certified Accountants of Sri Lanka (ACCA), British Computer
Society (BCS), Chartered Management Institute UK-Sri Lanka Branch, The
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL), Institute of
Chartered Secretaries and Administrators Sri Lanka (ICSA), Chartered
Institute of Marketing (CIM), The Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers UK
(ICSB) and The Chartered Institute of logistics and Transport (CILT).
