in Dubai in March, in a bid to help enhance road safety and
security for motorists and users of heavy-duty vehicles.
Sindan Electrical Trading (SET), which will be marketing this new
product, announced at a press conference that its "Roadbox Driving
Recorder" is specially designed to record crucial accident-related data.
Rayed Autarky, SET's Export and General Manager, claimed the system
will capture such crucial (important) images data - 14 seconds before
the impact or collision and six seconds after. Smart sensors, he added,
will activate the video camera mounted on the vehicle's front
windshield.
The SET presentation was attended by representatives from Dubai
Police, Roads and Transport Authority, driving school managers, taxi
company officials, rent-a-car managers and insurance company officials.
Autarky said the device will help police and insurance company
experts to quickly analyse the cause of any particular accident recorded
by the Black Box video camera and to pinpoint who is to blame for it.
He added, the recorded data could also be utilised to track a
driver's performance and compliance with road safety standards. The data
may also be used as evidence by the police in court cases -although it
is not clear, as yet, whether it would be admissible in Court.
Two UAE companies, Emirate Training Company and Dubai Taxi, are
reportedly examining the possibility of using this new technology
according to SET sources.
