Thirty fourth anniversary of PNB

It was on 1st April 1973, the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) commenced it's operations to control the drug menace in our country. Since then the PNB from its infancy has grown to its present state in the life span of 34 years. As a special unit representing the Sri Lanka Police to fight against the drug menace the PNB has its own set backs from time to time, nevertheless has been able to perform it's functions in a people friendly atmosphere, in controlling the drug menace.

The drug problem which is an international phenomenon needs collective cooperation worldwide to combat its menace successfully. The PNB that represents the Sri Lanka Police, internationally and nationally had contributed to curtail the supply and demand on narcotic drugs to a greater extent with the cooperation of other related agencies and the local Police.

The law pertaining to dangerous drugs which had been incorporated in 1936 under the Poisons Opium and Dangerous Drugs Ordinance too has been amended with most stringent legislation facilitating the enforcement authorities with wide powers and rigorous punishments. The PNB reaches the public in awareness programmes as well as enforcing the drug law, thus the bondage between the public and PNB goes hand in glove.

The concept of "Mathata Thitha" which has been launched by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has shown the importance of combating the drug menace of our country. The PNB with other related agencies have come out with strategies for implementation in the future with advance technology and professionalism in drug law enforcement to control the drug scourge and save the youth from its evils. A multi-religious ceremony has been organised for today April 1, on which day the PNB celebrate its anniversary to invoke blessings on its past and present officers.

The PNB earnestly request the public to pass on constructive information pertaining to drug trafficking which would be treated highly confidential and suitably rewarded. This would facilitate our efforts in fighting the challenges posed by the drug traffickers. The information could be either given in person by calling over at our office situated at the 3rd Floor, New Secretariat, Colombo 1 or by Phone on 2332985, 2447943, 2446437.
