Sarath Wijesinghe, aspirant for BASL presidency
Solicitor in England and Wales and Attorney-at-Law, and presently
Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority Sarath Wijesinghe will
contest for the Presidency of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL)
for the year 2008.
'My ambition is to serve the profession and the country using the
exposure and knowledge on International Law and wish to encourage and
assist the young lawyers to expose themselves to the world and to
maintain professional standards, maintain Rules of Law,' Wijesinghe
said.
Sarath Wijesinghe was ex- General Secretary of the Bar Association of
Sri Lanka and Administrator of the Legal Aid Commission in Sri Lanka,
where he was in charge of the entire legal scheme in the country.
Wijesinghe practiced as a solicitor, advocate in the UK after having
obtained the post graduate degree in the University of London, College
of the London University of International Law, International Relations
and International Institutions.
