Three-wheeler drivers with bogus licences remanded

Two three-wheeler taxi drivers who obtained their driving licences by
fraudulent means were produced before the Panadura Magistrate Jagath A.
Kahadagamage who remanded them till March 4.
The Magistrate instructed the Panadura police to further investigate
the matter and report to Court. Police checked the three-wheeler drivers
at a road block in Panadura town and found them with bogus driving
licences.
The drivers while being questioned told police that they had obtained
the bogus licences after paying a sum of Rs. 2,000 to a man in Panadura.
Police say about 60 percent of the three wheeler drivers are in
possession of bogus driving licences which had posed a problem to the
police. According to senior police officer many three-wheeler drivers
were involved in criminal activities. Three-wheelers have been used by
terrorist to target VIPs travelling in convoys in the Colombo city.
