Three-wheeler drivers with bogus licences remanded

Two three-wheeler taxi drivers who obtained their driving licences by fraudulent means were produced before the Panadura Magistrate Jagath A. Kahadagamage who remanded them till March 4.

The Magistrate instructed the Panadura police to further investigate the matter and report to Court. Police checked the three-wheeler drivers at a road block in Panadura town and found them with bogus driving licences.

The drivers while being questioned told police that they had obtained the bogus licences after paying a sum of Rs. 2,000 to a man in Panadura.

Police say about 60 percent of the three wheeler drivers are in possession of bogus driving licences which had posed a problem to the police. According to senior police officer many three-wheeler drivers were involved in criminal activities. Three-wheelers have been used by terrorist to target VIPs travelling in convoys in the Colombo city.
