Miracles take time
....so they say !:

Rev Fr. Giyomi Nonis |
But for Rev Fr.Giyomi Nonis it was
almost a lifetime obsession. When I met him seated in his office he
looked cheerful; not overworked nor tired of waiting to achieve his goal
which sounded like a miracle indeed.
It takes perseverance and dedication to do what this priest has so
loyally served to gain and it does not look all in vain today, as one
sits before him and listen to the gigantic effort he has put in since he
came to this parish that was in the brink of poverty at the time he
stepped in. To a parish that

had only a small room with the statue of Jesus Christ after
having risen from the dead.
So it was to be 'The Risen Christ Church' in Kadolkelle where it
stands today with all its healing powers, it has to be seen to believe
how crowds gather seeking solace to their troubled minds, troubled with
worries or sicknesses or whatever bad luck that has befallen upon them.
The gigantic structure that has actually risen from a waste plot of
marshy land which had a small one room chapel with a statue left behind
by a faithful follower. There were many followers who trailed in after
that and they may have found answers to their prayers because how come
multitudes were to follow after that , not merely from in and around
Negombo but from far away places over Sri Lanka.
Kadolkelle actually was a village where the poorest of the pooer
lived and mostly earned their living by fishing or selling their catch
at the weekly fair to which they had to travel miles away by foot in the
scorching hot sun.

But in 2002 when Fr. Nonis took over from the young novice Brother
Nihal Ivan, who is the parish priest of the Grand Street Church today.
It naturally crept into his mind that some miracle is bound to happen
and that the poor of that parish deserved more than what they had.
So he set about his journey starting of with a mere 18 thousand
rupees that was collected from the faithful followers who could afford
it but as time passed the project saw no end to it with donations and
miraculous events money began to generate and today 'The Risen Christ
Church' is rising up to a massive 70 million miracle that actually is
happening.
During its high feast period which is immediately on the Sunday that
follows Easter Sunday over 20 thousand people attend mass and it is a
massive church feast that takes place, explained the Reverend.
The church which is fast being completed is designed, inclusive of

technical features to cater to the large crowds that attend
mass and the healing service that is being held on a daily basis.
Many that attend mass are not neccessarily from the same faith and
there are others who visit the church seeking the blessings and have
become faithful followers once their prayers were answered.
It is almost happening on a daily basis now. Many that come seeking
the blessings from The Risen Christ image are numerous and the line of
entry seem to be getting bigger day after day and many of them believe
that 'Miracles' in fact can happen over night. At least here! At The
Risen Christ Church at Kadolkelle. |
