Tsunami goodwill project from down under

The United Nations-Habitat, Sri Lanka and M/S Bovis Lend Lease of Australia have collected a large consignment of cricket gear with the assistance of schoolchildren in Australia to be gifted to children in Sri Lanka.

This is being done under a goodwill project for tsunami victims in Sri Lanka organised by the two partners. The cricket gear will be gifted to less privileged schools in the tsunami affected districts including the North East of Sri Lanka.

Harry Solomons, a well known Sri Lankan living in Australia, who had made several donations to schools in Sri Lanka has helped United Nations and Bovis Lend Lease to collect the material.

Twenty three schools in eight tsunami affected districts was presented cricket material at a ceremony held at the United National office in Bauddhaloka Mawatha, on June 15. Frederick Lyons, Resident Coordinator, United Nations will preside over the event.
