Susanthika leads Lanka squad at Asian Grand Prix

ATHLETICS: Sri Lanka's ace sprinter Susanthika Jayasinghe leads an
eight-member team of athletes for the Asian Grand Prix which gets
underway on Tuesday in Thailand then the scene shifts to India.
The first-leg of the Asian Grand Prix is at Bangkok on Tuesday,
second at Guharti, India on June 23 and third at Pune also in India on
June 27. About 150 athletes from 23 countries in the region are expected
to participate with the Sri Lankan side managed and coached by Mrs Badra
Gunawardene taking wing for Bangkok today (Sunday).
Susanthika Jayasinghe, the sole women's competitor, will run in the
100 and 200 metres. Manjula Kumara will compete in the high jump,
Chaminda Wijekoon in the 1500 metres, Prasanna Amarasekera in the 400
metres, while the other four comprise Asoka Jayasundera, Rohitha
Pushpakumara, H. D. Priyadarshana and S. M. Weerakoon.
The men will also run in the 4x400 metres relay. |
