Blind schools cricket semis

Ranaviru Sevana vs Moneragala Tangalle vs CEI Plastics

BLIND CRICKET: Ranaviru Sevana will meet School for the Blind Moneragala in the first semi-final on June 14 and Past Pupils of Tangalle Blind School will take on CEI Plastics in the second semi-final on June 15 in the Dilmah Trophy Blind School cricket tournament. Both semi-finals will be played at the NSSA grounds Ratmalana (former Irrigation grounds).

The star-studded CEI Plastics team were involved in a thrilling quarter-final game against the Blind School, Moneragala and CEI Plastics team edged through to a one-wicket win.

Batting first, Blind School Moneragala made 290 for 8 wickets in 36.2 overs and they were helped a great deal with a blistering knock of 164 inclusive of 21 fours and a six by C. Deshapriya.

But victory was not to be with the Blind School Moneragala, as CEI Plastics edged through to a one-wicket win in the last over of the day reaching 292 for 9 wickets. They were helped a great deal by star batsman Dimuthu Perera who made 128 inclusive of 13 fours. Then Ruwan Perera - another national 'cap' made 43.

What pulled CEI Plastics through to a win was the opening stand of 107 runs by Dimuthu Perera and a effective knock of 32 by D. Chaminda. Then Ruwan Wasantha made 43. Besides his batting. Deshapriya bowled well for Moneragala to take 3 wickets for 31 runs, though eventually they lost the match.

Though losing, school for the Blind Moneragala entered the semi-finals when.

Tangalle 7 wkt win

The Past Pupils of Tangalle Blind School entered the semi-finals with a convincing 7-wicket win over school for the Blind, Ratmalana.

The Ratmalana Blind School team made a solid start with 80 for one wicket with Nuwantha making 38 and Chanaka putting on 54 runs for the second wicket them Sri Lankan star Samantha Rajapakse turned a magic spell to grab 6 wickets for just 2 runs and the Ratmalana Blind School collapsed for 125 all out in 23.3 overs.

Then the boys from Tangalle made 126 runs for 3 wickets to win their place in the semi-finals. Opener Sulochana Gunawardena made 45 and R. M. Udara 18 to help the Tangalle boys win.
