Male Icon Awards 2006

The prestigious event held at the Grand Ballroom of the Colombo Hilton recently was patronised by some of the city's well known names and celebrities in today's social circle.

While most men stood by the rule of gracing the occassion according to the dress code yet others were seen present in regular lounge suite besides the three people who represented the dress code to perfection.

The three gentlemen were Chief Guest for the evening His Exellency Dominic Chillcott, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom in Sri Lanka. William Costly, General Manger of Colombo Hilton (in a kilt, his nation's national costume of Scotland) and Arun Dias Bandaranayake the Master of Ceremonies.

The show itself which had the regular icons bagging the awards fell short of creating any waves by not bringing forth many of the recent headline makers in the fields of sports, music and business, who are already icons amongst the youth here.

A unique concept by enterpreneur and designer Fauzul Hameed appears to be planned as an annual event and hopefully with more younger and less hackneyed Icons to the fore in the coming years.
