Aggrieved police officers can appeal to NPC

Police officers will have an opportunity to appeal to the National Police Commission (NPC) regarding their promotions, transfers, dismissals or vacation of posts, a spokesman for the (NPC) told the Sunday Observer.

Appeals should be made in writing to the NPC's Secretary within six months. The NPC's appeal panel will consists of three senior retired SLAS officers who will hear the appeals put to them for arbitration. However, the NPC will not entertain appeals after six months.

All appeals should be sent to the Secretary of the Commission under registered post or handed over to the NPC personally. The NPC thereafter will call for reports, files, or any other documents pertaining to the case from the IGP and will summon witnesses for an inquiry.

The panel will submit its recommendations to the NPC who will decide on the course of action to be taken against the officer.
