Some UNP politicians try to betray intelligence services
By Anura Maitipe
A certain section of UNP politicians is attempting to betray the
intelligence services of the country in a bid to thwart successful
military operations carried out by the security forces in the Northern
and Eastern provinces, Minister of Mahaweli and Rajarata Development
Maithripala Sirisena told the Sunday Observer.
The public were aware of what the UNP did with the exposure of the
Millennium city which resulted in the killing of a large number of
intelligence personnel by the LTTE. These elements seem to have come up
with same strategy to come to power at the cost of national security, he
said.
The military forces have successfully liberated the civilian
community who had suffered at the hands of the LTTE during the last
twenty years in the Eastern province.
This victory was made by the security forces for the well-being of
the future generation of this country with great sacrifice, he said.
While combatting LTTE terrorism in the North and East.
The government has undertaken large scale development projects such
as the Moragahakanda project, Walawe Left Bank project, Maduruoya
Irrigation project, construction of the Norochcholai power plant and
construction of the new Airport and harbour in Hambantota, he said.
In addition the government has also successfully carried out various
infrastructure development projects in the liberated areas of the North
and East, he said.
The present government has made a firm commitment for the well-being
of the country and we are ready to face an election at any time. In the
event of an election the voters will teach them a bitter lesson for
treachery of the country and its people for mere political gains, he
said.
