In search of poems hidden in the sky
An exhibition of photography by Hemantha Arunasiri:
June 22-24
Lionel Wendt Gallery
Photographers,
use all kinds of objects in their surroundings, focusing on their forms
and diverse characteristics, to create something unusual. Armed with the
camera they investigate the external environment, as they drive our eyes
through a spectrum of visuals in 360 degrees.
Actually here they are engaged in an effort to express themselves,
and camera is only a tool in this process that helps them to convert
their emotions and feelings into a visual idea.
In this exhibition Hemantha's effort was to capture visuals that
exist outside the usual frames; he has kept to a certain angle in the
cyclic investigation of environment through the camera eye he
encountered with a panorama that may not be as interesting as what he
would have captured by the naked eye, in the same instance, in even a
slightly higher angle.
Here was a tension which inspired the photographer to work through
some unusual angles. And eventually find himself occupied with a search
of a language of the sky and clouds.
