Heavy rains, strong gales lash N' Eliya

Heavy rains and strong gales have played havoc in Nuwara Eliya causing three deaths and power failure for four days in the whole district, disrupting work in the plantations.

According to senior citizens the present climatic conditions have caused heavy damage.

A veteran planter of the British era, Clive Tissera said he had been in the district for over sixty years and this was perhaps the worst climatic conditions he had seen with howling winds with many huge trees falling and the entire work in the plantations coming to a standstill.
