More facilities for ayurvedic physicians to practise overseas
by Chanuka Mannapperuma
A project to provide enhanced facilities to ayurvedic physicians to
practise will commence shortly from the London Buddhist Centre.
Minister of Indigenous Medicine, Tissa Karaliyadde told a gathering
at the Veda Medura, in Matale that the indoor treatment he inaugurated
at the 'Veda Medura' at a cost of Rs. 1 million will cater to ten
patients.
The Minister said there is a growing interest in other countries on
our system of indigenous medicine. "Most foreigners come to Sri Lanka
for treatment but many could not do so", he said.
"In response to requests from foreigners, we have taken steps to
conduct several clinks in England for their benefit, he said.
"The concept of Vedagedera was formed to render assistance to
ayurvedic physicians who practise under dire circumstances. Orthopaedic
physicians find it difficult to accommodate the patients, due to lack of
facilities. Another objective of the 'Veda Medura' concept is to arrest
the trend of traditional physician's children opting for white-collar
jobs.
A pension scheme has been already introduced for native physicians
and over 2,000 have become members of this scheme, the Minister said.
