Women's chamber to help build entrepreneurial skills

The Women's Chamber of Industry and Commerce (WCIC) commenced its operations in 1985 and operates as a non profitable organisation committed to help urban and rural women in their entrepreneurial skills to better the living standard of their families.

WCIC also holds the membership of the SAARC Women Entrepreneur Council under the aegis of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).

The WCIC has decided to launch the SAARC and Women in Business (WIB) Trade Fair and Exhibition at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre, D. R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo 10, from July 20-29.

The objective of the fair is to support the local and foreign women entrepreneurs to enhance marketable capabilities to emerge as an efficient and competitive sector in the economy and to prepare them for global markets.

Exhibit products manufactured by them, sell and accept firm orders for supply, sell on retail basis, enter into long term joint ventures, display and market processes and methods of production of goods and services, obtain ideas on product diversification, quality improvement and cost cutting methods, to promote services to enhance trade and commerce whilst promoting resource efficiency and sustainable development and encourage greater cooperation between women of the SAARC countries.

SAARC and Women in Business (WIB) Trade Fair and Exhibition will also serve to establish new market links and provide maximum exposure to women entrepreneurs, particularly from the rural areas.

The WCIC will liaise between the District Chambers to encourage women in rural areas to participate in the Trade Fair and Exhibition.
