Theatre festival at Lionel Wendt

"Charandas" on Sept. 27

"Charandas," the award winning play directed by Parakrama Niriella, will be staged at the Lionel Wendt Theatre - Colombo 07 on the 27th (Tuesday) September at 7.00 p.m. for the first time after the winning streak at the National Drama Awards Festival 2006 in both Sinhala and Tamil Drama categories.

"Charandas" is an adaptation of the Indian version "Charandas Chor" by Habib Tanvir, a veteran drama director and the leader of the Naya Theatre Group of Chhattisgarh. Habib's 'Charandas Chor' has won the highest award at the Edinburgh International Drama Festival in 1983.

The Sri Lankan version of 'Charandas Chor' too bagged nine awards at the National Drama Festival of 2006 including Best Play and Best Direction. Music direction of the Drama is by the veteran H.A. Perera while Ravindra Mapitigama contributes as Choreographer and Assistant Director.

Dilip Rohana chips in as the Manager and Chaminda Prasad and Palitha Abeylal handle Makeup jointly. Jude Srimal functions as the Chief Organizer of the Show.

"Sinhabahu" Sept. 28 at Lionel Wendt

"Sinhabahu" stage play of Prof. Ediriwira Sarachchandra will be staged on 28th (Friday) September at 7.00 p.m. at Lionel Wendt e theatre, Colombo 07.

"Kapuwa Kapothi" at Lionel Wendt on Sept. 29

"Kapuwa Kapothi" is Dr. Ediriweera Sarachchandra and A.P. Gunarathan's translation of famous Russian author Nikolai Gogol's Comedy "Marriage".

This humorous play has been staged in the past and the new production is scheduled to he staged for the 1st time at the Lionel Wendt in Colombo 07 on 29th (Saturday) September 2007 at 7.00 p.m.

The Stage decor of "Kapuwa Kapothi" is by Lionel Bentherage and the cast comprises famous artistes Wijaya Nandasiri, Deepani Silva, Sarath Kulanga, Ariyaratne Kaluarachchi, Lalith Rajapakse, Uthpala Suriyarachchi, Kumari Attanayake, Ravindra Ariyaratne and Upamali Ranathunga.

Costumes creation by Lalitha Sarachchandra while lighting is by Upali Weerasinghe and the Stage Management by Dhanapala Bogoda and Ravindra Ariyaratne, the new Production and Direction at "Kapuwa Kapothi" is by Lalitha Sarachchandra.

'Naribena' on Sept. 30 at Lionel Wendt

Dayananda Gunawardena's Drama 'Naribena and Jasaya Saha Lenchina' will be staged on the 30th (Sunday) of September at the Colombo 07, Lionel Wendt Theatre at 7.00 p.m.

Those taking part in the play are Wijaya Nandasiri, Rodni Warnakula, Bandula Wijeweera, Sarath Kulanga, Rathnasheela Perera, Jayanath Bandara, Niluka Lokubalasuriya, Saman Gunawardena, Sunil Thilakarathna.

Music is by Rohana Baddage and Ranjith Balasooriya, Costumes by Airangani Gunawardena, Dancing by Rohana Baddage, Main Organizer of the show is Jude Srimal.
