Nothing is impossible

Dual career - not a barrier?

His creativity was incredible even as a child. Just entering his teens, at the age of thirteen he made a name for himself when he successfully designed his first wedding saree.

Today, a Biology Degree holder and lecturer by profession, he thus far engages in his childhood passion and pastime, designing and designing bridal sarees in particular. This was certainly one of the rarest combination of interests I have ever encountered, which inspired me to write about Dr. Shanith Fernando giving our readers an insight as to how diversity of interests could create a sensation in ones life.

Born in Sri Lanka, a student of Alethea International School, hailing from a fashion conscious family, his sisters being beauticians and models, Shanitha took to fashion designing.

He will be launching his own fashion label 'Bellesza' by December which means 'beauty' in Spanish and Italian which will be available at the Santastic Fair to be held at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre in December along with many tastefully designed up market evening wear, cool casuals and office wear with selected accessories; a new chapter in his career. A series of fashion shows have also been presented by Shanitha, a name now synonymous in the fashion industry.

Shanith in my opinion has surpassed all expectations in both spheres, lecturing in biology and haute couture reaching incredible heights; an accolade at the age of 24.

Having studied abroad in the USA for many years reading for a double degree in Biology and Psychology, Shanith says he is now back in Sri Lanka to offer something great to his motherland, his contribution to the fashion industry too as a fashion designer of repute.

A cheerful personality yet very much focused on his endeavours, Shanith is trendy and represents an impeccable dress sense. Not exactly the outward appearance of a medical persona that one would expect but a promising designer with such talent and acumen which could not be ignored; so enthusiastic about his pastime.

He emphasizes that spontaneity and freedom to do what one desires should be respected and permitted by every family it is the success story of any one who embarks on a journey of his own choice.

Impressions count a lot too, so designing impressively with a touch of uniqueness in each outfit is important, the correct blend of colours and designer wear in keeping with the current trend, he adds.

A young enthusiast of immense talent, Shanith has to his credit a good student track record, a gold medal for Science 2004 and the Academic Achievement Award 2005 from the US University.

He enjoys travelling and learning about other cultures, but is very patriotic. Presently Shanith is engaged in lecturing at the American National College (ANC) while engaging in his favourite pastime, fashion designing, the next closest thing to his heart.
