Western Province Housing Chief on bribery charge

The Western Province Housing Commissioner has been arrested by the police for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.60,000 for an official duty.

Deputy General Commissioner Piyasena Ranasinghe told the Sunday Observer, "a person had informed him about the bribe to the Bribery Commission.

He said this is not the first time the practice has been taking place and during this year many were arrested for taking bribes."

Ranasinghe said, that people should be aware of these unofficial deals and as soon as they get to know, it is their responsibility to inform us.

"We have launched many awareness programs through the media, issuing leaflets. He said that the Western Province Housing Commissioner has done something which makes him a traitor in his profession and if we found such cases legal action will be taken against them.
